What is a PC to TV Cable?
A PC to TV Cable (which can act as a PC to TV Converter) is a cord that connects to the computer and displays the image from your monitor on your television, where the other end of the cord connects. This allows you to watch internet television or DVDs in your computer’s DVD drive on a real TV set. It can also make your television a large monitor for your computer which can be used to surf the web, view photos, etc. Finally, if you’re really ambitious and love home entertainment, it is the first step towards making your computer a Home Theatre PC (HTPC).
There are many different types of PC to TV cords, each of which works in slightly different ways. The first difference between cords is the way in which it connects to the computer. This is done through outputs on your video card (where your computer monitor connects). See the Video Card Outputs section for more details. The second difference is how it connects to the television (what type of input it has connections for). See the TV Inputs section for more details. A third difference is that some cords act as converters. A standard PC/TV cable only directs what would be on your monitor to the television set. Depending on your TV and current PC settings, you might have to mess with hardware and display options on you computer to make the image look good on your television, which has a different display resolution than a monitor. If your cord acts as a converter then it will adjust the image for you, meaning you will not have to mess with most of the settings. Simply plug the cord in and watch your videos on the television. These cords generally require a power source such as the USB port of your computer.
